Valentine Day is a craft gold mine. You could make anything, decorate it in pink and red hearts - and maybe some paper doilies - and you've got instant love-gushing goodies. The extra bonus is that imperfection is just fine. No one cares about showing glue or crooked edges, which makes it ideal for playing with techniques that might be new to your kids.

Thumbprint Hearts
very simple valentine craft ideas that can be used in heaps of different ways to make pretty containers, cards, tags, gift wrap and other embellishments for valentine's day.

Needed for Thumprint hearts

A clean thumb
red paint Or stamp pad
surface to print (cardstock or paper)

What to do

Using your thumb, press it into the red stamp pad or paint.
Then, depress your thumb down on the white cardstock rectangle, at a slight angle to form one half of the heart. Then, overlap the first thumbprint with a second thumbprint to form the heart. See the photos below for proper placement. Using paint can be a bit trickier. Practice on scrap paper first.

* Bookmark - on cardstock print four hearts vertically, cut with decorative scissors and mount with glue on red cardstock or construction paper. Punch with a hole punch and thread of ribbon.
* Cards - print your hearts and the following day cut them and apply them to your cards
* Garden Pot- apply white thumbprints to a red heart - "on the card Thumbody loves you - That thumbody is me" Mount to a straw. Place in a cup filled with valentine candies.
